Order of Appearance and Examination of Paper
Frequently, there are claims that parts were added to a document at a point of time later than the document’s proposed creation. One of the methods making it possible to examine such a claim is to check the relative order of appearance of the sections in dispute, opposite the document’s other parts.
The examination of the relative order of appearance consists of microscopic examinations combined with chemical tests.
This examination can provide answers to the following questions:
» Where parts of the document added to it?
» Was the document signed before or after it was printed?
» Was the stamp put on before or after the document was signed or printed?
The Institute of Forensic Science is the only place in Israel which performs this kind of examinations.
The examination of the paper makes it possible to provide answers to the following questions:
» Was the paper tampered with?
» Does the document’s paper originate from a single source?
» Were pages replaced in the document?
» Does the paper’s age match the date the document carries?
