The Institute of Forensic Science is the only place in Israel to perform examinations of an ink dating.
Ink is a compound that includes color pigments, solvents, volatile substances as well as materials whose task it is to improve the ink’s adherence to the paper and facilitate writing with it. Ink is both found in all kinds of pens as well as in stamps and printers.
The examination of the ink dating is based on the analysis of the relative state of the volatile substances the ink contains. The examination is a chemical test, in the course of which part of the ink is removed for purposes of examination.
The assessment of an ink’s age can provide an unequivocal decision between two different versions.
The comparison of inks is a process that combines fluorescent optical examinations as well as chemical tests. The Institute of Forensic Science is the only place in Israel to perform fluorescent optical examinations as well as chemical tests while comparing ink.
The comparison of ink makes it possible to give answers to the following questions:
» Were words or numbers changed?
» Was the document written in one single sequence?
» How many types of ink were used to write the documents?
» Is the date carried by the document possible?
» Were part of the document’s pages replaced by other pages?
